What Is Vector Tracing?
Vector tracing is the process of tracing an image into a vector graphic. A vector graphic is built using anchor points connected by lines and paths. They stay sharp at any size, making them the de-facto format for logos and infographics. The industry standard today for creating vector graphics is Adobe Illustrator, after Macromedia Freehand was discontinued.
Many corporate users create their logos using AI chat assistants. However, these are not appropriate for print production as the logos are in JPEG, PNG, or SVG formats. JPEG and PNG are pixel-based and unable to scale to different resolutions while staying sharp. SVG is good for the web but not print-friendly, as it outputs in RGB mode and uses non-licensed fonts.
Vector tracing can help convert an AI-generated logo into a print-ready and scalable format.
